Welcome to the Redditch Chess Club Site.
We are a friendly local club with about 30 members.
The club meets on Wednesdays from 7.15 pm at the Alvechurch and Hopwood Cricket Club, rear of 6 Birmingham Road, Alvechurch, Birmingham, Worcestershire, B48 7TA. (League match start time is 7.30 pm for the Birmingham and Worcester Leagues.)
How to find us:
By train - Take the Redditch/ Birmingham train and alight at Alvechurch Station. The venue is less than a mile from the station. Walk down Station Road and Bear Hill, turn left on to Red Lion Street, continue over the mini roundabout into Birmingham Road, and the turning to the club is between numbers 4 and 6 by the school signs on the right.
By car - From Birmingham follow the A441, Redditch Rd/B4120 to Alvechurch. The venue is on the left on the Birmingham Road in Alvechurch by the school signs and before the mini roundabout next to the Red Lion Pub. From Redditch take the A441 and then the Redditch Road to Alvechurch. From this direction the turnoff is on the right after the miniroundabout. If the car park is full there is a free car park on Tanyard Lane behind the Red Lion. Please do not use the Red Lion car park.
NB. The turn off the main road is quite hard to spot from the dark, especially coming from the centre of Alvechurch, but the turn off is right by the school signs, between number 4 and number 6.
Our junior chess club meets on Saturday morning at Alvechurch Library. We provide coaching for juniors at all levels from beginner upwards and an opportunity to play friendly games. Parents should contact us in advance at email@example.com if they would like to attend with their child.
We welcome chess players at all levels, whether you wish to play competitive matches in one of the local leagues, or just enjoy playing social chess in a friendly atmosphere. We also run regular coaching sessions and put on events from time to time with talks from International or Grand Masters.
We have two online clubs on chess.com and lichess and chess.com as follows:
